An Introduction to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for Climate Action

This introduction to DEI examines what is meant by DEI, why DEI is necessary for Climate Justice, and how to integrate DEI into actions.

About this event

As champions of the environment and Climate Justice actively seek the best strategies to address the climate crisis they recognize that transitioning to a sustainable environmental future requires multifaceted approaches to the complex challenges posed by the climate emergency. Increasingly the environmental movement is also recognizing that these approaches must incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion principles so that everyone has a place in creating a healthy, flourishing planet. This introduction to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) workshop examines what is meant by DEI, why DEI is necessary for Climate Justice and how environmental organizers can integrate DEI into actions to address the climate emergency and the transition to a just environmental future.

This workshop will be facilitated by Adiat Junaid, a creator, writer, and consultant who uses storytelling in many forms to address human rights and social justice issues, including ecological justice. Adiat has been involved with environmental issues since childhood and has worked on diversity, equity and inclusion issues for decades. The workshop will be supported by Stefan Hostetter, Manager of CSI Spadina, longtime environmental activist, and Co-Chair of the Toronto Climate Action Network.

We are committed to making this event as accessible for everyone who would like to attend. If you have any needs please reach out to stefan(at)socialinnovation.ca prior to September 1st.
