"Handle With Care: Growth through the care economy benefits people and the climate"
Despite the centrality of the care economy during the pandemic, the post-pandemic recovery has pivoted away from seriously addressing care issues. This is a crucial time, but the “influencers” on economic issues have effectively managed to shift attention from care to a fictional notion of what constitutes ‘economic health.’
Marjorie’s Rosenbluth Lecture will look at the blind spots in economic thinking that devalue the care sector and in doing so, miss opportunities for expanding the economy through activities that both meet people’s needs and are less environmentally damaging. She will be joined by respondents Anjali Appaduri from the Climate Emergency Unit and Lynell Anderson from The Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC. Cecilia Point from the Musqueam Nation will open the lecture.
