European Energy Transition - Who is Leading the Charge? Part One

Ontario, in partnership with the Trade Commissioner Service, is hosting the first of three-webinar series with two European markets that are going through an energy transition. This webinar will provide a better understanding on what the markets below are doing to meet 2030 climate objectives; and their long-term strategies for helping Europe achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The webinar will cover the following topics:

  • Arndt Ulland, Trade Commissioner, Berlin - Germany’s ambitious GHG emission targets create manifold opportunities for hydrogen, CCU, smart energy solutions, efficiency, and other solutions. Local strength and global competition create a particularly competitive market, appreciating leading edge technology.

  • Hauke Harms, Trade Commissioner, Bern - Switzerland reacted to the 2022 energy crisis by mandating PV on new buildings larger than 300 square meters, and by allowing for large-scale PV installations in the alps. This increases the 2035 target of new renewables to 35 terawatt-hour (TWh) and creates local opportunities in the smart grid and efficiency space as well as in hydrogen technology. Further opportunities exist with global technology companies and project developers, including in the carbon capture space.
