We have less than 11 years, according to the most recent IPCC report, to completely transform our economy and society to avert further climate catastrophe. Yet the colonial governments of this state sometimes called "Canada" refuse to take meaningful systemic action, and instead opt to spend billions in public money to fund more pipelines while doling out billions more for dead-end corporate welfare subsidies. Meanwhile, those at the frontlines of the climate crisis, namely Indigenous, Black, racialized, queer, and poor communities, are being neglected (read: ignored) by settler decision-makers.
In the face of an intersectional crisis of climate chaos, police brutality, white supremacy, and colonial genocide, Climate Justice Toronto (CJTO) is organizing to unite young people from all movement backgrounds in the GTA to send a message to our governments and the broader public. The only people who will be making decisions about our future is us, the people affected, and especially those on the frontlines. Through solidarity work and alliance-building, peaceful direct action, creative storytelling, and electoral organizing, we will forge a just transition towards a decarbonized economy, a defunded police, and a Green New Deal for all.
Join us at our monthly digital Climate Justice Toronto organizing meeting!
------------
A mini-orientation on CJTO's work will be held for first-time attendees from 5:30-5:50 PM prior to the beginning of the main meeting.
The meeting will begin at 6:00 and end at 8:00 PM.
CJTO strives to make digital organizing meetings as accessible as possible. There WILL be closed captioning throughout the meeting. There are different opportunities to participate in multiple ways (i.e. typing instead of talking, using a camera or not). We will also be sending an email out after the meeting with the full minutes and any events or actions we may have mentioned. Lastly, we want to acknowledge that access is something our movement has struggled with and continues to develop best practices for. We include a feedback form for every meeting. You can message us on this page or email us at climatejusticeto.on@gmail.com with any needs or questions.
