Toronto East End Climate Collective (TEECC) is pleased to invite you to spend an hour with Sam Levac-Levey. Like most TEECC events, the atmosphere is informal. Sam will discuss his battle against climate change. For Sam, it's always been about climate change. His presentation will be followed by an open discussion.
Sam has spent his life fighting climate change. As a mechanical engineer, he has worked on rockets, energy storage, electric flying cars and drones. He helps run Work on Climate, a non-profit Slack community and Slack’s largest climate community. Sam is a co-founder of Starshot Capital, a venture capital firm that supports ambitious founders who are building gigatonne-scale climate solutions. They have made 6 investments so far, including Phaidra (AI that radically improves efficiency in large industrial processes), Ecolectro (Affordable green hydrogen at scale), Harvest Thermal (Ultra-efficient heat pump with thermal energy storage) and Rumin8 (Scalable ruminant feed that decreases methane emissions by up to 100%).
He is also the inventor of “Solutions - The Game.” Solutions is a co-operative board game inspired by Project Drawdown where players learn about the biggest contributors of green house gases and work together to eliminate them to save the planet.
While most of us choose to fight climate change at the community level, Sam chooses to raise millions of dollars to invest in new ventures, seeking to change the battle against climate change as much as Apple Computers changed our relationship with computers. Sam will talk with us about why he chose his unusual strategy.
