No TMX & CGL Pipelines: Light Sign Display + Banner Drop

Hey Trudeau and Horgan: NO TMX & CGL PIPELINES!

TMX Fire Hazard – Don't Burn our Future!
RCMP Out of Wet’suwet’en Now!

LIGHT SIGN DISPLAY + BANNER DROP

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12
4pm PST

Meet at Hastings and Sperling
North Burnaby

6698 Hastings St., Burnaby BC, V5B 1S3

2022 begins where 2021 left off - with even more pipeline construction scandals. The Trudeau federal government, Horgan provincial government and big businesses continue to cut corners and disregard human rights as they try to ram the TMX and CGL pipelines into existence. Both pipelines are far from completed – and our resolution is to get them both canceled!

Trans Mountain is trying once again to disregard City of Burnaby bylaws. Burnaby Fire Chief Chris Bowcock says the “key issue is Trans Mountain’s non-compliance with the fire lane standards established by Burnaby’s Fire Services Bylaw” which requires roads built to accommodate the heavy fire trucks which would be used to try and contain a fire in a Tank Farm storing millions of barrels of explosive hydrocarbons.

Trans Mountain knows the Tank Farm and expansion project already put tens of thousands of Burnaby residents and SFU students at grave fire risk, and its refusal to meet minimum City bylaw standards show again how little concern they have for all our lives.

They are also reapplying to change the TMX pipeline route after initial attempts to drill under the Fraser River failed. This after a sink-hole was found near the pipeline construction work and a few weeks after drilling fluid was released into a Coquitlam water course. TMX is a slow motion disaster waiting to explode out of control.

Meanwhile Wet’suwet’en land defenders and allies continue to face an escalation of militarized RCMP forces surrounding them as they try to defend their traditional territories from CGL pipeline construction. While the BC NDP government pretends it has nothing to do with the repression, they are the ones authorizing and paying (with our tax dollars!) for it.

The sooner we stop both these pipelines the better - for both people and planet. Join Climate Convergence for a Light Sign Banner Drop demanding “STOP TMX & CGL PIPELINES!” as we continue this important and necessary public campaign!

Bring your friends. Bring a mask. Wear warm clothes!
