Lessons Learned from Canada’s Record on Climate Change and Other Recent Reports - Canada’s Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development

Sustainability Network welcomes back Canada’s Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development (CESD) to discuss his latest reports to Parliament. Commissioner Jerry V. DeMarco and Principals Kimberley Leach, James McKenzie, David Normand, and Michelle Salvail from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada will join us to discuss the issues covered by these recent CESD reports:

  • Lessons Learned from Canada’s Record on Climate Change

  • Scientific Activities in Selected Water Basins

  • Emissions Reduction Fund—Natural Resources Canada

  • Departmental Progress in Implementing Sustainable Development Strategies

  • Environmental Petitions Annual Report

The webinar will highlight learnings from these CESD reports and provide an opportunity for questions.

JERRY V. DEMARCO

Jerry V. DeMarco assumed the role of Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development in the Office of the Auditor General of Canada in February 2021. Previously, Jerry served as Commissioner of the Environment and Assistant Auditor General in Ontario and oversaw several administrative justice organizations at the federal and provincial levels.

MICHELLE SALVAIL

Michelle Salvail is a Principal in the Office of the Auditor General of Canada with extensive experience in performance auditing in various fields. She is currently responsible for Parliamentary and International Relations, and supports the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development in overseeing the environmental petitions process.

DAVID NORMAND

David Normand is a Principal in the Office of the Auditor General of Canada’s performance audit practice. He has led numerous performance audits on various environmental matters and was responsible for the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development’s fall 2021 report on Departmental Progress in Implementing Sustainable Development Strategies.

KIM LEACH

Kim Leach is a Principal in the Office of the Auditor General of Canada’s performance audit practice. She has led numerous performance audits on energy and climate related matters and was responsible for the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development’s fall 2021 report on Lessons Learned from Canada’s Record on Climate Change.

JAMES MCKENZIE

James McKenzie is a Principal in the Office of the Auditor General of Canada’s performance audit practice. He has led numerous performance audits and was responsible for the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development’s fall 2021 audits on scientific activities in selected water basins and the Emissions Reduction Fund.
