Who: the event is especially geared towards educators, but all are welcome!
Calling all educators!
In this workshop, educators are invited to learn about Canadian youth-led, national climate justice nonprofit Shake Up The Establishment’s new book Practicing Rest, Recovery, Resistance (3Rs). Educators will be provided with an overview of our organization's work and impact, the story behind why we wrote this book (and for whom), and an overview of our new 3Rs framework, alongside why it is necessary for educators to incorporate this framework into their educational settings. Topics implicated within these discussions include (but are not limited to):
intersectional environment and climate justice,
ethical community-based research,
engaging in community organizing efforts and movement-building
decolonial and anti-colonial perspectives on wellness and mental health
management strategies for eco-grief and anxiety
conducting systems-based analyses to seek to address root-causes associated with present-day inequities and injustices, and
building critical skills in dreaming, imagining and co-creating just, equitable, sustainable, thriving futures through storytelling and world-building.
This framework is created by-youth, for-youth; by incorporating it into your curricula, teachings and wider professional development contexts, you are more effectively teaching the next generation of changemakers to create healthier, life-long, sustainable practices of community engagement through an intersectional feminist, anti-colonial embodied ethic of care for both themselves and those in the interconnected world around them.
