Communities Taking Climate Action: Putting Equity at the Centre

Join us for this first edition of Communities Taking Climate Action

With a growing community of over 1,500 changemakers and climate champions from across Canada, we are celebrating the first year and a half of Community Climate Transitions, including the 10-month learning journey that 19 trailblazing communities embarked on.

You’ll have a chance to hear from inspirational speakers and connect with peers around the themes of advancing a local climate transition through a whole-community approach that makes space for everyone, centering equity and justice in climate work, and leading with hope and care.

Over the two days you will have an opportunity to take part in over 5 hours of specially curated workshops and masterclasses, meet other community climate movers and shakers, experience coaching opportunities, access learning resources and much more!

This event will take place in English, with French simultaneous translation available for plenary activities.

We're excited to share more information about our areas of focus for the event. More information about specific workshops and masterclasses will be released soon!

Day 1: November 15, 2022
This day will be centered on bringing everyone in your community around the table to build a shared vision and narrative.

Day 1 will focus on the importance of collective work in bringing about transformative change. The conversations will deep dive into crucial challenges we are facing today and what steps could lead to innovative solutions. You will attend an informative Mayor’s panel, engage in workshops, participatory breakout sessions and masterclasses on topics such as hosting community conversations, financing local multi-sectoral efforts, and the role of communities in advancing climate action while centering equity and inclusivity.

At the end of Day 1, you will have the opportunity to meet some of your fellow participants at small in-person gatherings hosted in several major Canadian cities.

Day 2: November 16, 2022
This day will look towards an inclusive, equitable and sustainable future.

Day 2 will focus on the process of developing solutions that work for all. We will discuss the path towards climate actions that are fair and just in building a brighter future. You will take part in workshops, breakout sessions and expert-led masterclasses about youth and Indigenous leadership, taking a systems change and multi-solving approach, and centering users in designing solutions. We will work together towards uplifting intersections and building a connected movement.
