We are writing to let you know about this opportunity to speak up for climate action in the City of Toronto. The TransformTO process is leading to a goal of 30 % reduction of CO2 emissions by 2020 and 80% by 2050. We are excited the city staff are bringing the 2020 report forward now - and the 2050 one in the spring. And a little concerned too because in order to do our part to reduce our emissions we might need to invest some funds, and we might need to bring in some regulations, changes, ways to reduce dependence on fossil fuels - and to do this we will need political support from councillors, and a mayor, that don't always vote the environmental way. Cities emit 75% of the CO2 in the atmosphere, and Toronto is Canada's biggest city. Let's step up to the plate and get involved locally.
An open discussion and training session for those who are new as well as those with experience in giving deputations. We’ll look at the report, discuss how people want to respond, and give guidelines for responding in writing or in person. Did you know that cities put out 75% of CO2 emissions? What we do matters and this is a very important moment in time. Join us there!
