We are writing to let you know about this opportunity to speak up for climate action in the City of Toronto. The TransformTO process is leading to a goal of 30 % reduction of CO2 emissions by 2020 and 80% by 2050. We are excited the city staff are bringing the 2020 report forward now - and the 2050 one in the spring. And a little concerned too because in order to do our part to reduce our emissions we might need to invest some funds, and we might need to bring in some regulations, changes, ways to reduce dependence on fossil fuels - and to do this we will need political support from councillors, and a mayor, that don't always vote the environmental way. Cities emit 75% of the CO2 in the atmosphere, and Toronto is Canada's biggest city. Let's step up to the plate and get involved locally.
For those already active in climate groups, including TCAN members: Please join us Thursday Nov 10th, 6:30 pm at Friends House, 60 Lowther Ave. This will be an opportunity to discuss strategy for building support in critical neighbourhoods so we can get the councillor support that is needed to move the city's climate action plan forward. We will also discuss our take on the Transform TO report linked here:
