Public polling consistently shows support for environmental leadership has never been higher, but this kind of support doesn’t always translate into action from our elected leaders. Our local organizing team, consisting of Green 13, Green Parkdale-Roncesvalles, and Safe Rail Communities, has arranged for the Parkdale-High Park All-Candidates Debate on the Environment and climate to take place the evening of Wednesday, October 2nd, 7:30 pm, at Humbercrest United Church, 16 Baby Point Road. This is one of the more than 100 Debates on the Environment (100debates.ca
) set to take place across Canada the first week of October, ahead of the federal election. Over 100 debates will take place on or before October 3rd; never before has such country-wide attention been accorded the environment during a federal election. Please note that our riding’s debate will take place on October 2nd. Four questions have been provided in advance to candidates coast to coast, one each on climate, water, wilderness conservation, and pollution and toxics.
The main objective of 100 Debates is to encourage a race to the top on climate change and broader environmental policy issues. It will demonstrate the strong public support that exists for environmental leadership, and enable the best policy ideas to come forward to compete for that support. Join in locally on October 2nd!
